Switch from another app without retyping: CSV or Excel → receipts

Hundreds of expenses already sit in another app, and that is why you keep putting off the switch. No need: almost every expense app can export its records as CSV or Excel. Pick that file in ListBelanja — the columns are recognised by themselves whether the headers are Malay, English or 中文, dates in any format, amounts with RM, commas or brackets — check the preview and import. Each record becomes a receipt without an image that goes straight into budgets, reports and claims; LHDN reliefs are suggested from that receipt year's table for you to confirm.

How to switch

  1. In the old app: Export → CSV or Excel (.xlsx). One file for all years is fine — each row follows the year of its own date.
  2. In ListBelanja: More → Switch from another app → Choose file (new users are also offered it right in the Receipts tab). The file is read on your device.
  3. Check the preview: the column mapping (date, merchant, amount, category, relief, note, currency, payment method) can be corrected; every row has a checkbox and an editable relief suggestion; rows that already exist as receipts or repeat within the file are flagged and left unselected.
  4. Import — records come in in batches as receipts without an image, noted "moved from another app". Interrupted? Pick the same file again: rows already imported are recognised as present.

What is recognised by itself

  • Malay, English or 中文 column headers (Tarikh / Date / 日期, Jumlah / Amount / 金额, Kedai / Merchant / 商家…) — and headerless files, from the values.
  • Day-first dates (Malaysia), month-first (US exports), ISO, "3 Oct", 中文 年月日 and Excel date serial numbers.
  • Amounts with RM, thousands separators, brackets for negatives, three decimals and foreign currency codes — foreign receipts are converted to RM at the receipt-date rate.
  • Old-app categories are mapped to ListBelanja categories; LHDN reliefs are suggested from that receipt year's relief table (the old app's relief column takes priority) — no hard-coded codes, the table updates itself.
  • Duplicates: date ± 1 day, same amount and a near-identical merchant name against an existing receipt → flagged "already present".

Receipts without an image: what works and what does not

A moved record is a full receipt in ListBelanja — it goes into monthly budgets, reports, projects, claims and relief calculations — but without an image. LHDN needs proof for every relief claimed, so each moved receipt offers "Attach the original receipt image": photograph the paper receipt or pick the file from the old app, and it becomes complete evidence. Suggested reliefs stay marked "needs a check" until you confirm them.

Privacy: the file stays on your device

The old app's export holds your entire spending history. The file is read entirely inside your browser — it is not uploaded to the ListBelanja server or any AI. Only the rows you tick are saved as receipts, exactly as if you had typed them; auditors and try-out mode see the explanation only.

Frequently asked questions

Which apps are supported?

Any that exports CSV, comma/semicolon/tab-separated text or Excel (.xlsx) — columns are recognised from header names and values, not from a list of apps. If something is off, the column mapping is corrected in the preview.

Can I import twice?

Safely, yes: rows that already exist as receipts are recognised (date, amount, merchant name) and left unselected. An interrupted import resumes by picking the same file again.

Can a relief be claimed without the receipt image?

The relief calculation counts moved receipts, but LHDN needs proof if audited — attach the original receipt image to the records you claim. Relief suggestions stay marked as needing a check until confirmed.
